UK IMC

We can provide training and all associated exams for this rating. The IMC Rating is a UK Rating and can only be attached to a UK issued licence. The Rating can only be used in UK territorial airspace. The holder of an IMC Rating can fly in UK uncontrolled airspace out of site of the surface, and in Class D or E controlled airspace in conditions that require you to comply with Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).

When applying for an IMC Rating you must produce logbook evidence of having met the following flying requirements;
• 25 hours total experience as pilot of aeroplanes following PPL issue and which must include:-
• 10 hours as Pilot in Command of aeroplanes 5hours of which should be cross-country flights.
• 15 hours as Pilot under Training in instrument flying with an instructor in a dual controlled aeroplane (during IMC course).
• 10 hours total flight time by sole reference to instruments (during IMC course).

These minimum course requirements assume that the applicant has completed the 4 hours of dual instruction in instrument flying previously required for the issue of a JAR-FCL PPL (A). An applicant who has not had these 4 hours training, must satisfy the training organisation that he has reached an equivalent standard of ability before starting the course.

There is also one multi choice written exam, this has a 75% pass mark the same as the PPL exams.

Applicants for the IMC Rating must hold a valid UK issued Flight Radiotelephony Operator’s Licence. If you do not then your Instructor will be able to advise you on how to obtain one.
At the end of the course there is a flight test with an Examiner that will last about one and a half hours.
